PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS,
Shawnee Mission West High School, opened by the Shawnee Mission School
District in the 1962-1963 school year, and its first graduation was in
May 1963 with a graduation class of XXX seniors,
WHEREAS,
the school has operated continuously at its location, 8800 West 85th
Street, in the City of Overland Park, Kansas since that opening date,
producing more than XXXXXX graduates,
WHEREAS,
multiple generations of Overland Park and Lenexa families have
graduated from Shawnee Mission West, helping to produce a vibrant and
stable community,
WHEREAS,
excellence in education, sports, community involvement, politics,
public service, media, and entertainment have been a consistent
achievement of the educators, students, and alumni of Shawnee Mission
West High School,
WHEREAS,
the school now celebrates its 50th year of existence with deep pride in
its work and looks toward the future with great anticipation,
WHEREAS, it has been repeatedly proven that West IS Best,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carl Gerlach, Mayor of the City of Overland Park, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Sunday, April 15, 2012 as:
Shawnee Mission West Golden Anniversary Day
in
the City of Overland Park, Kansas, and I call upon our citizens to join
the students, parents, teachers, staff, administrators, and alumni in
their celebration of this milestone and in their anticipation of even
greater accomplishments in the future.
